Sugar Free Hamantaschen {Gluten Free + Egg Free)

Recently I worked together with Health Garden to create sugar free cupcakes and I really enjoyed getting to know them and their products, which are all-natural sweeteners with no added chemicals and no artificial sweeteners. I thought it would be a great opportunity to collaborate with them again for Purim by creating sugar free hamantaschen. I used Xylitol, which is a natural sweetener with no added chemicals and no artificial fillers, in place of traditional sugar. I skipped the usual fruit jam which is laden with sugar and preservatives and opted for fresh raspberries rolled in some Xylotil to give it an extra sweet taste. The results were great! My toddler ate them straight from the oven and did not comment on the lack of sugar or fruit jam. In fact he asked for, “more raspberries please!”. To add a decadent touch, I garnished several hamantaschen with a sugar free cocoa glaze and sea salt.

Ingredients:
2 T ground flax seed combined with 6 T water (or 2 eggs)
1/2 cup oil
2/3 cup Health Garden Xylitol mixed with 2 T water
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tsp baking powder
2 1/2 cups flour (gluten free flour can be used)
1 cup raspberries + 1/2 cup Health Garden Xylitol

Directions:
Combine flax seed water mixture with vanilla extract. Add Xylitol water mixture and combine well. Slowly add in flour and baking powder until combined. The dough might be crumbly. When you remove the dough knead it together with your hands before rolling out on a lightly floured surface. Cut out circles. Roll raspberries in xylitol then place one raspberry in center of circle. Fold over both sides then the bottom and pinch the corners together. Place on greased baking sheet and bake on 350′ for about 10 to 12 minutes. Once cooled off you may garnish with cocoa drizzle and sea salt.

Cocoa Glaze:
1/4 cup cocoa
2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons Health Garden Blue Agave

Combine ingredients together. Add more water if you want a thinner glaze.

  • Hi, I am going to try the above recipe. I have just ordered the Xylitol, yet could not do that from ‘Health Garden’ as they do not ship internationally or rather they do not ship to Israel unfortunately. I had to take quite a time to search where to find the Xylitol and I hope it will motivate me now to bake more gluten free and sugar free cakes and cookies, especially ones that are typical for the Jewish holidays. Thank you.
