Easy Steak Sandwiches

Juicy steak, caramelized onions, and saucy tomatoes piled into toasted bread… this is one of those easy dinners that actually tastes good.

I use whatever steak is cheapest at the store, which makes this perfect for busy weeknights when you want something hearty, flavorful, and budget-friendly without overthinking dinner. Serve it stuffed into a toasted baguette or over rice to soak up all the sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 onion, thinly sliced or diced
  • 4 tomatoes, diced
  • 1 lb steak, thinly sliced
(use whatever cut is budget-friendly and easy to slice thin)
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • Paprika, to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • Montreal steak seasoning, to taste
  • Toasted baguette or rice, for serving

Directions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions until softened and slightly golden.
  2. Add diced tomatoes and cook until they begin to break down and become saucy.
  3. Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, paprika, salt, and Montreal steak seasoning. Mix well.
  4. Add thinly sliced steak and cook until no longer pink and fully cooked through.
  5. Serve stuffed into toasted baguette slices or spooned over rice. Enjoy!

Tips

  • Thinly slicing the steak helps it cook quickly and stay tender.
  • Use whatever cut of steak is on sale to keep this recipe budget friendly.
  • Toasting the bread adds extra texture and helps hold in the sauce.
