Easy Steak Sandwiches
Juicy steak, caramelized onions, and saucy tomatoes piled into toasted bread… this is one of those easy dinners that actually tastes good.
I use whatever steak is cheapest at the store, which makes this perfect for busy weeknights when you want something hearty, flavorful, and budget-friendly without overthinking dinner. Serve it stuffed into a toasted baguette or over rice to soak up all the sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 onion, thinly sliced or diced
- 4 tomatoes, diced
- 1 lb steak, thinly sliced
(use whatever cut is budget-friendly and easy to slice thin) - 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- Paprika, to taste
- Salt, to taste
- Montreal steak seasoning, to taste
- Toasted baguette or rice, for serving
Directions
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions until softened and slightly golden.
- Add diced tomatoes and cook until they begin to break down and become saucy.
- Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, paprika, salt, and Montreal steak seasoning. Mix well.
- Add thinly sliced steak and cook until no longer pink and fully cooked through.
- Serve stuffed into toasted baguette slices or spooned over rice. Enjoy!
Tips
- Thinly slicing the steak helps it cook quickly and stay tender.
- Use whatever cut of steak is on sale to keep this recipe budget friendly.
- Toasting the bread adds extra texture and helps hold in the sauce.
