8 oz penne or linguine pasta
2 cups fresh basil leaves
1/4 cup pine nuts
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/3 cup olive oil
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper


1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

2. In a food processor or blender, combine the fresh basil leaves, pine nuts, minced garlic, Parmesan cheese, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Pulse until a smooth pesto sauce forms, scraping down the sides as needed.

3. In a large bowl, toss the cooked pasta with the homemade basil pesto until the pasta is evenly coated.

4. Serve the pesto pasta immediately, garnished with additional Parmesan cheese, fresh basil leaves, or toasted pine nuts if desired.

Optional Variations:

For a creamier pesto, stir in 2-3 tablespoons of heavy cream or milk to the pesto.
Add grilled or sautéed vegetables to the pasta for a heartier meal.
Use a different type of nut, such as walnuts or almonds, in place of the pine nuts.
Stir in a few tablespoons of sun-dried tomato pesto for extra flavor.
