This classic Italian pasta dish features a creamy, tomato-based vodka sauce that coats tender penne pasta. It’s an easy, comforting meal that comes together quickly for a delicious dinner.

8 oz. penne pasta
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup vodka
1 (14.5 oz) can crushed tomatoes
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Salt and black pepper to taste
Chopped fresh basil for garnish


1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, until fragrant.

3. Carefully add the vodka to the skillet. Allow the alcohol to cook off for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, heavy cream, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, dried basil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

5. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.

6. Add the cooked penne pasta to the skillet and toss to coat the pasta evenly in the creamy vodka sauce.

7. Serve the Penne Alla Vodka hot, garnished with additional Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh basil.
