Oh Nuts is a sugar junkie’s dream. As a child I would eagerly anticipate the days my mother would have to run errands in Boro Park so I could tag along knowing we would make a stop at the candy land in Brooklyn. In awe I would look at the shelves lined with chocolates and candies carefully selecting my favorite of the day. Now YOU can indulge your sweet tooth by entering the chance to win a gift certificate to Oh Nuts! Who said you can’t have treats on Pesach? They offer an extensive selection of kosher for Passover goodies such as chocolates, candies, baked goods, dried fruit and beautiful packaged gift baskets.
I’m notorious for my sweet tooth so when a sample of Ready-to-Eat, Dried Beef came from Joburg Kosher, I knew just the right person to test out how great the beef really was. My husband is a meat man. He loves his burgers and steaks so it only seemed fitting for me to hand this one over to him. – Nina
“”As a meat lover, I can’t remember how many times I have been to a 7-11 and looked at the beef jerky or slim jim and wished that I could snap into it like Macho Man Randy Savage used to scream. Well, a year or so ago, I remember going into a kosher super market and seeing kosher beef jerky. I almost fainted, but then I tried it and it tasted the opposite of what I had imagined, it was like someone dumped soy sauce on a piece of beef and called it beef jerky. Wasn’t beef jerky supposed to be DRIED meat? Just as I was about to give up on Kosher beef jerky, I was introduced to Joburg Kosher Beef Biltong. I wasn’t in the mood for disappointment, but figured that since I still had high hopes for the possibility of having a kosher counterpart to just about any food product, I should try it. Thank Hashem I did
An iced coffee a day keeps that sluggish 3:00 PM feeling away. Whether it be summer or winter, I need my caffeine fix in iced form– not piping hot or close to room temperature, I need it chilled all the way. And not because I favor the slushy drink; iced coffee is my childish attempt to drown the flavor of coffee into a whole lot of milk and sugar. Because while I need coffee’s instant boost to compensate for sleep deprivation as a new mom, I really don’t like the taste of the bitter bean. Recently though I tried a refreshingly strong brew without the usual bitter aftertaste which may have just won me over. The Chosen Bean is the new kid on the block with authentic old school flavor. My husbands intern, who is a Starbucks snob, had a cup of the new brew and gave it two thumbs up for it’s rich flavor and incredible freshness.
I was intrigued when I heard about this Single Origin Coffee that claimed to be the Chosen Bean. I liked the idea that their beans come from small family run farms in remote regions of Mexico, Central and South America, Africa, Indonesia and India. Instead of traveling the long path of other beans, they are from one location and maintain their natural flavor so that when you open the package to have a cup of coffee, you know you are getting the real deal. The different blends have quirky names like “Boca Diablo” and “Solomon´s Choice” and come in nicely packaged designs that could pass themselves off as bible trading cards. So for coffee aficionados and iced coffee fans alike, this coffee is something to try. To start your collection, enter the contest below to win a FREE sample of “The Chosen Bean”
I am always skeptical when a new cookbook comes out. Many claim to have a diverse selection of tasty recipes that will make your collection complete, however most of them fail to deliver. So when I heard that Susie Fishbein just released her seventh cookbook, Kosher By Design Teens and 20-Somethings: cooking for the next generation, my question was; is my kitchen really going to be lacking without this latest cookbook on my shelf?
